smokescreen open source Flash to HTML5/JS

June 3rd, 2010

It was only a matter of time before the Flash Geeks out there found a work around to Apples Lock Out/Ban of Flash.  I’m searching for a way to join the developer team.  But the open source smokescreen project converts Flash AS3 code to HTML5/Javascript and plays on all major browsers.  Obviously I expect some limitations to begin with but in some cases smokescreen actually performs better than using the Flash Plugin.  Pretty cool stuff!  It would be awesome if Adobe hooks up with these guys and releases a CS5.5 free upgrade and packaged with their compiler.  I’m calling the CEO of Adobe now to give him my two cents.  ;-)

Have a looksy…

Just for me note -

The easiest thing to remember is ‘static’ means access is allowed without instantiation…. however, in ActionScript, one could easily use a ‘static’ method to inject information that is then subsequently accessible from further static usage via getters/setters. Therein lies the true creative power of leveraging static classes that are somewhat pseudo-dynamic in their implementation and thus adhere strictly to not having to be instantiated, just sort of ‘preset or pre configured’.

You can see this in some documentation at:

Core, AS3Core are real-world examples from my typical framework.

Final Cut Pro FLV – export

February 14th, 2010

This isn’t really a tutorial, but just an explanation that hopefully will save you hours.  I built a video in motion only about 1 minute long.  It was built using a DVCPRO HD setting.  I exported it out and then brought it into FCP 6.  Could not export directly to FLV, locked up.  I found I had to down res first and export to SD DV NTSC.  Then bring that SD back into FCP, then I could export.  Let me know if this helps anyone!  I need a lot more comments from my bloggers to start to rank!

HTML5 first look

January 31st, 2010

I will probably have to learn HTML5 to stay competitive.  However, unless the architecture to HTML5 is very different i.e. more of an OOP base and not using CSS style sheets to do everything, it will never replace AS3 and Flex.  Adobe has built a very quick and easy to use platform comparative to anything else out there.  I hope this just continues to force Adobe to speed up the integration of their platform to more medias like the iPad and the TV chip adobe is working on.

I probably would spend time learning HTML5 itself but rather a set of PHP classes that outputs PHP5 for you.

Flash to MySQL

January 15th, 2010

Using this bend class you can talk directly to MySQL, still testing but so far seems to work great.  If you are building a secure application I still would use AMFPHP but this is a great too while in the testing faze until client signs off.

PDF AMFPHP

January 15th, 2010

Leveraging the power of PHP and a PDF generation library called dompdf, you can create a simple, seamless user experience in Adobe Flex. Flex enables you to create an outstanding presentation to the end-user, with instant validation of user-supplied data and the full power of ActionScript 3. Through AMFPHP, you’ll gain access to PHP’s full toolset, enabling virtually limitless applications.

1- people can purchase from your site with their designs or one of yours shown.
2- you can use the designer as an online proofing system for communicating with a client.
3- the designer can be fully customized at very reasonable cost to extend your options or look.

We are happy release our fun little online T Shirt decorator named JELLOfreeD.  We had a great time playing around with this application and decided to offer it to others who just don’t see the value or risk in the alternatives available.  Check it out here:
